Cleansing Your RUNES

Cleansing Your RUNES

It is important to spiritually cleanse your runes, particularly when they are a new acquisition. This can be done in many different ways, depending upon which feels most natural to you.

They can be laid out under a full moon for the night or placed outside in the early morning sun and left there for a full twenty-four hour cycle.

Another method is ‘smudging’  ~  this entails wafting smoking herbs such as lavender or sage over them, releasing their purifying properties to cleanse the runes.

The runes can be cleansed using naturally flowing water from a well, spring, river, creek or stream.

*Never use tap water.

EMPOWERING YOUR RUNES

Once you have cleansed your runes they need to be empowered. Once again, by keeping your runes either with you, or in a private space, you will be empowering your runes with your energy.

Empowering your runes can also be done in a variety of other ways. Again, use a method most comfortable and natural to you.

Runes can be laid out for the midday Sun to bless, being place out in the morning, then retrieved at dusk.

The runes can be empowered by burying them under soil for a week, then retrieving them. The runes can be buried either by themselves, or in a separate bag or container. It is not necessary to bury them singularly.

Another more complicated method requires you to place the runes on a cloth and sprinkle with sea salt to empower the runes with the element of Earth  -  then, pass each rune through incense smoke whilst asking the element of Air to empower the runes .

Each rune can then be individually passed through a candle flame to empower the runes with Fire element. For the final step, sprinkle spring or rain water over the runes to empower them with the element of Water.

Once your Runes are cleansed and empowered they are imbued with your own unique energy.

As you work with your runes, especially if you do a lot of readings for others, you need to cleanse them regularly.

You may also wish to perform an annual ‘re-empowering ceremony’.

Caring for Your RUNES

CARING FOR YOUR RUNES

Runes can be powerful allies provided you treat them with the care and respect they deserve. They do need to be ‘cleansed’ and ‘empowered’, particularly when they are new, and may have already been touched by many others.

As they are often considered a personal item, runes should be kept with you as much as possible. Alternatively, they can be placed in or on a desk or workspace, or kept near your bed. This gives the runes the opportunity to tune into your personal energy, giving you clearer and more concise readings.

Bindrunes - Bind-Runes

Bindrunes  - Bind-Runes

Just as in ancient times, the runes of today are used to empower, heal and teach. Their wisdom, energy, vibration and protective qualities make them ideal to imbue talismans, amulets, magical tools and jewellery. They can be inscribed, burnt, drawn, carved or painted onto any item of sacred personal value. This can be done using a singular rune, or in the form of ‘bindrunes’.

The word ‘bindrune’ literally means ‘to gain inspiration’. Bindrunes consist of two or more runic symbols bound together to form a single power symbol.

Ask the runes to show you which ones you need to combine for your chosen purpose, then allow your intuition to draw them. They can then be placed together and inscribed, their combined symbols giving extra meaning and power to your chosen item.

For example, Thurisaz gives the qualities of personal power, strength, protection and defence. Raido represents the path of a person’s life;  it’s challenges, opportunities, trials and lessons and the gaining of wisdom. The two runes combined bring the power of protection and wisdom during ones’ life journey.

Another example is to combine the Wunjo rune with that of Othila.

With Wunjo comes the essence of balance, joy, hope and prosperity. Othila brings the qualities of security within the self, as well as the ‘home’. Combined, the bindrune represents the qualities and power of joy and prosperity on the home-front.

The combinations of bindrunes are nearly endless as they can all be used in a multitude of combinations, using from two to as many runes as your intuition dictates.

Each and every combination has a different meaning or connotation and can be made either for certain situations or events, or as a personal power source.
